College of Arts and Sciences

Every gift makes an impact on the University community.

Our College of Arts and Sciences is continually building upon success from the Oremus Fine Arts Center to the Science Center with an array of quality programs throughout their twenty academic departments. Students continue to raise the bar and better the community, including:

In addition, the Philip Lynch Theatre celebrated its 40th season and students participated in border pilgrimages. Our graduates play important roles in the community, too, including Katie Poetz (National Science Foundation East Asia and Pacific Summer Institute fellowship), Jason Stubler and William Barrett (dedicated Sergeants for the Naperville Police Department), Gwendolyn Young (Seed of Hope Foundation), and Erin Richards (New York Intern Program, a part of the Episcopal Service Corps).

The demand for employees skilled in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) continues to rise, and the University is establishing a strong STEM presence. In addition, in 2015, Lewis University received not one, not two... but three prestigious National Science Foundation Grants. And, we're working with local schools and organizations to increase STEM awareness in students before they reach college. In 2016, high school students tested the security of the electrical grid and discussed future careers in cyber security during the Guardians of the Grid competition at Lewis University in Romeoville. Professor and Chair of Computer and Mathematical Sciences Dr. Ray Klump shared his expertise with the students before they took on the challenging competition. The Lewis University Girls Create with Technology program received a $7,500 grant from the Caterpillar Foundation to help continue the program this year. Dr. Cindy Howard, associate professor of Computer and Mathematical Sciences, leads the program, which offers learning experiences in Computer Science to middle school and high school girls.
