Lewis University awarded eight notable alumni during its Annual Alumni Awards Dinner on Sept. 28, 2013. This year’s notable alumni that were recognized include: Martin Mitrenga ’74, Frank Palmasani ’75 MA’85, Cheryl Portner MSN ’10, Javier Solorio ’06, Michael Swenson ’67, Charles “Guy” Thier ’83, Colleen Walsh ’05, and The Honorable Lisa Holder White ’90.

Martin Mitrenga ’74, earned his degree in Aviation Maintenance Management from Lewis, and completed 39 years working for a Major 121 Air Carrier, and today, continues to contribute as a special contractor to Delta Air Lines.

Frank Palmasani ’75 MA’85, earned his bachelor’s degree in Psychology at Lewis in 1975. He taught English, served as a College Counselor, and coached basketball at Providence Catholic High School. He served as an Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at Lewis from 1981-1985, during which time he earned his master’s degree in Education. Palmasani devoted more than 10 years as an Admissions Counselor, Assistant Director, Associate Director and Director of Admissions at Lewis University.

Cheryl Portner MSN ’10, earned her Master of Science (MSN) in Nursing Administration from Lewis University in 2010. Currently, she is an executive at Gannett Healthcare Group and an adjunct faculty member for the MSN Program. She is also the President of the Lewis University Nursing Alumni Network (LU-NAN).

Javier Solorio ’06, triple majored in Communication Technology, Multimedia Design, and Radio-TV Broadcasting at Lewis University, graduating in 2006. He started his own multimedia company, rgbpixel, for which he serves as Independent Media Designer and Founder.

Michael Swenson ’67, studied Business Administration at Lewis, and has served as owner and founder of Michael Development since 1987. The impressive portfolio of Michael Development includes ownership and management of 2,500 multifamily housing units, 65,000 square feet of neighborhood retail space, and 135,000 square feet of office space.

Charles “Guy” Thier ’83, obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree from Lewis University in 1983, majoring in Computer Science. Thier joined Arbonne International in June 2013, as its Chief Information Officer. He previously worked as Chief Information Officer at Bally Total Fitness, where he created and executed Bally’s technology vision to support its market strategy.

Colleen Walsh ’05, earned a double major in Biology and Chemistry from Lewis University in 2005 and since 2010, she has worked as a Development Chemist at Newell Rubbermaid in Oak Brook.

The Honorable Lisa Holder White ’90, was the first African-American Judge in the Sixth Judicial Circuit and the first African-American Justice to be sworn in as a member of the Fourth District Illinois Appellate Court. Justice Holder White received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Lewis University in 1990.
