Laura and Wayne didn’t meet on campus – but attended here as a couple. After over a decade of marriage, the couple began discussing the possibility of continuing their education to open up new doors for both of them in their careers. It wasn't until after their seventeenth wedding anniversary though, that they found the right opportunity.

Laura happened to receive a postcard in the mail about an open house at the then-new Lewis University Shorewood location. She mentioned to Wayne she planned on checking it out, and he agreed to go with. After learning more about the adult program, they were ready to commit.

“It was a great opportunity. The adult program would allow us to get our degree, one class at a time, without it taking ten years. It fit our schedule, allowing us to still work and raise our family,” says Laura.

Taking classes together allowed them to share books and always have a study buddy close by. A little friendly competition never hurt, either.

“We were able to brainstorm together, bounce ideas of each other,” Laura says. “And Lewis was great. I graduated in three years and Wayne in four. It was a great experience.”

"Neil and I met during his first weekend of school.  I was on the Pulse e-board, so my best friend (who'd later serve as maid of honor) and I went around to the freshman dorms to recruit people to our movie.  After about the one-hundredth room we stopped by, we landed at the room that Neil was in.  We talked to them and Neil sat there very quietly barely acknowledging us, which I found out later was because I kind of scared him with my loud, outgoing personality.  Throughout his freshman year his friends would drag him to our events and we would talk until he finally joined. We would get dinner together every week after meetings as part of a group of members.  At our spring concert that year Neil had the top of his finger badly cut and we got to spend time alone for the first time.  When school started again him and I hung out a lot more - almost every day.  Then after thirteen months of flirting he asked me out.  We dated for about eighteen months when he proposed on April 9th - the day of the spring formal. Since I was SGB secretary we were there early for set up.  Brother James and most of the student services staff were some of the first people on campus to know!  I went to medical school after graduating and we planned our wedding over Skype with a lot of help from our friends and families.  On August 26, 2012 we were married and moved to Dominica for a while."
