Lewis Women’s Soccer Alumni,
I hope you have had a great start to the New Year. I am sending this message out to our growing group of women’s soccer alumni to make sure you are aware of a couple of dates this spring.
First, Feb 24th we are hosting our first women’s soccer spring banquet. I would like to invite you to join our current team and their families to celebrate our seniors, as well as to recognize those being awarded with both conference and team awards. The banquet will be held on campus, in the University Dining Room, and will start at 4p.m. The evening will include a silent auction, dinner, cash bar, and a guest speaker. The event will conclude with senior recognition and an awards ceremony. Tickets will go on sale next week for $25.
I also want to let you know about a new tradition for our program. For the first time we will be awarding the Cornerstone Award to a very deserving recipient. This award is in recognition of everything that the complete student athlete possesses. A committee of staff, sports information, and administration will pick the deserving player from a list of finalists. We will award the player who exemplifies excellence in three categories: athletics, academics, and association. We will be inviting winners of this award back on a yearly basis for a halftime ceremony during a match. The name of this athlete will also be placed on a plaque that will hang in the updated women’s locker room along with future Cornerstone Award winners.
Finally, the annual Alumni Game will be held on the evening of Saturday, April 6. This continues to be a great opportunity to catch up with each other and I’m looking forward to having our biggest alumni team to date. I will continue to update you as more details are available, but please, save the date!
Information about both events, as well as updates will be posted on our Facebook page. Also feel free to contact me directly with any questions, or simply to catch up. As the players return to school and our offseason strength and condition program gets underway, we want you to know that we will continue to work extremely hard to make this program one that you are proud to have been part of. Following a season of double digit wins, our first conference tournament appearance, and regional ranking since 1997, we are excited about the future of women’s soccer at Lewis University. I look forward to you being part of the process and hope to see you this spring. Go Flyers!
Yours in Soccer, Chris Koenig
