Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science

  • Lewis Biology graduates have averaged 85% placement into their professional school of choice over the last five years.
  • The past five graduating classes in Physics have a 100% pass rate on graduate school qualifying exams.
  • Computer and Mathematical Science at Lewis is nationally recognized by the Department of Homeland Security and the National Security Agency as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance Education.
  • Lewis University’s online degree programs, Master of Science in Data Sciences, Criminal/Social Justice or Public Safety Administration, and the Master of Arts in Organizational Leadership, were crafted to advance professional knowledge and increase opportunities in a flexible format.
  • The Science Center at Lewis University features a 50,000-square-foot addition and enhancement to the existing Science Building integrates new laboratories, spaces for undergraduate research as well as gathering spaces. The Science Center has won a National Award of Merit in Educational Facilities from the Design-Build Institute of America.

Social Work, Sociology, Psychology and Organizational Leadership

  • Benilde Hall has been upgraded and remodeled as a center for the behavioral and social sciences. Faculty for Psychology, Social Work, Sociology, Political Science and Organizational Leadership has moved into the new facility.
  • Lewis has been awarded initial accreditation through 2017 by the Council on Social Work Education.
  • The College of Arts and Sciences hosts a number of summer programs, including:
  • Learning to Lead: A two-day program for high school students who wish to learn more about effective leadership and tools they can use to enhance group dynamics, increase effective communication and positively resolve conflict.

Art and Design, History, Music, Philosophy, Theatre and Theology

  • The College of Arts and Sciences has renovated the Oremus Fine Arts Center.
  • Many history major graduates go on to become successful high school history teachers and museum curators.
  • The history program is approved by the State Teacher Certification Board in conjunction with the Illinois State Board of Education.
  • Theology students are offered opportunities for service learning, preparation for further academic study in and outside the discipline, study abroad, and preparation for service in pastoral ministry, social work and more.
