College of Education Highlights

  • Our Secondary Education Department in collaboration with Math and the Sciences from the College of Arts and Sciences was awarded a Robert Noyce Grant through the National Science Foundation for $1.44 million over five years to be used for scholarship support for candidates to obtain middle or secondary licensure in math or science for high-need schools.
  • The College now offers a program for dual endorsements in Reading Teacher and ESL for certified teachers.
  • Over the past four years, Lewis has partnered with 60 school districts, seven counties and 130 schools to provide students with a wide variety of clinical, student teaching, intern and practicum placement opportunities, and exposure to different programs, students, cultures and learning styles.
  • The College of Education is now offering English as a Second Language (ESL) and Bilingual Endorsement cohorts at the Lewis University Tinley Park campus. The ESL Endorsement program provides candidates with expanded career opportunities grounded in a commitment to social justice, as well as multicultural education.
  • The College of Education at Lewis University is one of only 23 programs in Illinois to be accredited by the prestigious National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
  • Select graduate programs are offered at our Tinley Park and Chicago campuses as well as suburban school districts for the convenience of working adults.
  • The College of Education is now offering several new programs, including:

  • International student teaching opportunities are available for College of Education students.
  • The College of Education has partnerships with high needs schools in Joliet District 86 and with Joliet Diocese Catholic Schools.
  • Alumni have been recognized as Joliet Great Teachers and have received IACTE Outstanding Beginning Teacher Recognition.
  • The newly developed Institute for the Advancement of Catholic and Lasallian Education is preparing the next generation of educators and administrators to lead Catholic and Lasallian schools in their work to transform lives, educate all and instill Christian and Gospel values in those entrusted to their care. Its areas of service include:
