College of Nursing and Health Professions

  • Lewis allows for direct admission into the nursing program for incoming freshmen.
  • One of the hallmarks of Lewis’ nursing program is the individualized attention students receive from faculty. In the clinical setting, the student-faculty ratio is 8:1, and in the classroom, it’s 24:1, much lower than other area universities.
  • The college has seen significant growth over the last couple of years, including the initial offering of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program.
  • For the five most recent years, our nursing graduates have the highest licensure pass rates (NCLEX), 95%, of all nursing programs in Illinois.
  • Recently, the New Careers in Nursing Scholarship Program was awarded to Lewis University by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. This scholarship is awarded to universities that demonstrate excellence in preparation of students that have transitioned into nursing careers.
  • Prestigious CCNE accreditation ensures your program is of the highest standards nationally.
  • Lewis graduate nursing students worked collaboratively with local health care agencies by conducting service-oriented practicum projects, such as providing consultation services to an academic medical center on consolidating two mental health services.

College of Nursing Facilities

  • The College of Nursing has expanded its existing facilities to enable the growth of enrollment by 200 to 250 students from the current enrollment of 1,012 students – an increase of almost 40%.
  • The expanded nursing facility includes:
  • Three additional state-of-the-art simulation labs for a total of six labs modeled after hospital rooms, which provide a safe, supportive environment for students to master nursing procedures and learn critical thinking skills.
  • A viewing room to provide an opportunity for faculty to observe student performance and provide individual feedback that will enhance learning.
  • Four additional classrooms, as well as additional faculty offices.
  • Conference rooms, a student lounge and a café.
  • High fidelity simulated manikins that can simulate a variety of health assessment scenarios, allowing students to practice responding to and treating some of the high-risk, low-occurrence events that they may not see during their clinical rotations.
  • In addition to investing in facility enhancement, the College is looking to expand its academic program offerings. Additional faculty will assist in retaining focus on small class sizes and individualized learning.
  • The College of Nursing Oak Brook Campus features exam rooms that are exact replicas of patient exam rooms and are equipped with the latest medical technologies.
