Alumni Profile: Anne Rubino '86

Ann Rubino ’86 began her educational pursuit to obtain a degree in Elementary Education, and later went on to serve as an adjunct faculty member at Lewis University training future teachers in methods of science teaching. It was after her retirement from teaching, however, that Ann found another career path that trumped retirement – published author.

Captain Todd Kruder ’88, USN, Retired, has no doubt that his freshman year writing course shaped his love of writing. After more than 25 years of service in the United States Navy, Captain Kruder recently published A Journey in the Fog of Depression: A Military Spouse’s Experience.


Alumni Profile: Tom Hernandez '88

Tom Hernandez ’88 graduated with a degree in journalism and communications, which has served him well throughout his career. His days of creating a newspaper for his elementary school to his experience as a journalist and columnist have prepared him for one of his most memorable experiences yet – writing and publishing books.


Alumni Profile: Pat Sullivan '65

He has spoken on leadership and attitude to coaching clinics across the globe, including the USA Coaching Clinics and camps in Greece, Ireland, Belgium, and Austria. He has also spoken nationally to businesses. He took that presentation and, after encouragement from his supporters, turned it into a book which debuted in late 2013. The book, Attitude – The Cornerstone of Leadership, is a practical guide for leaders.



Alumni Profile: Maureen Madden '86

When Maureen Madden ’86 (Physics) was four-and-a-half years old, her mom sat her down on the floor in front of the big television and together, they watched the Apollo 11 moon landing. “I remember my mom telling me that this was history being made as we watched Neil Armstrong land on the moon. I loved science from that point on,” said Maureen. “Lewis offered me a scholarship and under the late Sr. Noel Dreska, OSF and Dr. Leonard Weisenthal, my love for science only grew.”

Providing an opportunity for tourists to have a more personal and less touristy meal during their travels, Jay Savsani ’07 (Marketing) and his extraordinary team developed as a means to bring tourists and locals together over home-cooked meals.

You’ve probably seen Rick McCallum ’77 on your television or movie screen without knowing you were looking at a Lewis alumnus. Even if you knew him, you may not recognize him thanks to the transformation he undergoes to play his roles. As a stuntman, he is often made to look like someone else.

Alumni Profile: Gibran Carter '03

Gibran Carter ’03 came to Lewis in 1999, transferring from East Central University in Oklahoma to the Lewis University basketball team. A scholarship recipient, Gibran focused his studies on the arts and communication and graduated with a B.A. in Graphic Design. 

Alumni Profile: Katie Poetz '10

After graduating in 2010 from Lewis University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry, Katie Poetz continued to pursue her goal of becoming a research professor at a university, or a researcher at a pharmaceutical company. Now a resident of Potsdam, NY, she is a fourth year graduate student pursuing a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry in the research lab of Professor Devon Shipp at Clarkson University.


Alumni Profile: Michael Bolling '12

From Brennan Field to MLB Fan Cave, Michael Bolling ’12 named one of the “Dwellers” - While the Guerin College Prep High School freshman basketball team worked on their homework, their coach, Michael Bolling ’12, was surfing the Internet and checking social media. It was “a stroke of luck” that he saw the link for the MLB Fan Cave Dwellers application on Facebook.

Alumni Profile: Guy Thier '83

Guy Thier '83 B.A. Computer Science, and his father, Charles '61, have made attending Lewis a family tradition.Guy is currently the SVP, CIO, COO for Bally Total Fitness. He also serves on the Lewis University Computer Science Advisory Board and credits his education at Lewis with starting him on the path to success in his career.

An oncology nurse at University of Chicago Medicine for five years, Stefanie now serves as a nursing educator for Chamberlain College of Nursing. She credits her time at Lewis with providing her the experience she needs to provide the best experience for her own students.
